Setting up tier requirements allows you to define clear pathways for customers to qualify for your loyalty tiers. Below is a breakdown of the key configuration options and how they work together.
Mailing List
Check this box to apply benefits to mailing list subscribers, with or without spending requirements.
Membership Length
These settings determine:
- Membership Duration: How long a tier membership lasts before it expires.
- Qualification Period: The timeframe during which a customer’s orders are evaluated to qualify for the tier.
For lifetime memberships, all customer orders are considered, and qualifying members retain their tier indefinitely without expiry.
For calendar year memberships, all customer orders within this calendar year are considered. These reset 1st January each year and all customers will be removed from all tiers immediately until they qualify again.
Spend-Based Requirements
The spending requirement specifies how much a customer must spend within the membership period to qualify for the tier. This includes the total value of their orders, including shipping costs. You can also limit this spend to specific product categories (eg. General, Wine, Mixed Case etc) if you'd like to be more specific. Simply click 'Limit by product type' and choose the desired product categories (eg. Wine, Spirits, Beer etc).
If you are calculating spend by 'product type' you must ensure that all products are correctly categorised in Winehub.
Customers must spend the required amount before they become eligible for the tier discount. Only after they have reached the qualifying total will they enter the tier and be eligible for the associated perks or discounts. In other words, a $500 purchase that crosses the Silver threshold does not make that first order discounted; the discount applies only on future orders once the customer has already qualified.
Product-Based Requirements
This setting allows you to require customers to purchase specific products or quantities to qualify for a tier:
- Product Selection: Specify the product(s) that must be purchased during the membership period.
- Bottle Quantity: Define the number of individual bottles a customer needs to purchase to qualify.
- Combination Rule: Choose how the product and bottle quantity requirements are combined.
Using an OR condition while leaving one requirement empty (e.g., no product specified or bottle quantity set to 0) will allow ALL customers to qualify.
- Use an AND condition to require all specified criteria.
- Clear the condition entirely if only one requirement is specified.
Wine Club Requirements
You can make Wine Club membership a qualification for certain tiers:
- Specify one or multiple clubs customers must belong to.
- Define whether customers must be members of all listed clubs or any one of them.
- Optionally, set a minimum membership period before customers are eligible.
- Optionally, use the Club condition override to remove a customer from the tier immediately upon cancellation of club membership.
Combination Conditions
Combination conditions define how spend, product, and Wine Club requirements interact:
- Spend/Purchase Condition: Determines how spending requirements combine with product requirements.
- Clubs/Spend-Purchase Condition: Specifies how Wine Club membership combines with spend or product requirements.
- OR Condition: Allows customers to qualify by meeting any one of the requirements.
- AND Condition: Requires customers to meet all specified requirements.
REMINDER: If any requirement in an OR condition is blank or set to 0, ALL customers will qualify for the tier. To avoid this, always ensure:
- All requirements are defined, OR
- Conditions are set to AND to avoid unintended qualification pathways.
By carefully configuring these settings, you can create robust and fair qualification pathways for your membership tiers, driving customer engagement while maintaining precise control.
