Understanding Metafields

Understanding Metafields

A metafield in Shopify is like a custom data field that you can use to store additional information about your products, orders, customers, or other parts of your store. It’s a way to add extra details that Shopify doesn’t include off the shelf. Winehub comes with over 30 of these metafields by default (eg. Vintage, Region, Alcohol %, PH etc). These fields are optional but are very useful for displaying rich product information on your product pages, for generating detailed analytics about sales, and creating highly-targeted preference-based segments of your customers for marketing.

Best Practise with Metafields

Using Winehub metafields is totally optional. However, we suggest loading the following fields for all alcohol products in order to get the most out of Winehub;
  1. Winehub Type
  2. Product Type
  3. Varietals
  4. Country of Origin
  5. Region
  6. Sub Region
The metafields above are use to drive functionality, dashboards, reporting and segmentation throughout the app. The remaining metafields are 'informational' and are mainly used to display additional information on the front end of your website. Whichever metafields you choose to use for your business, it's important to load them consistently for all products.
